Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the French language within its cultural context. An immersive approach to instruction is used to enable participants to acquire basic proficiency in the four main language learning skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), with an emphasis on speaking.

- Formal and Informal Language
- Alphabet and Sounds
- Family
- Descriptive adjectives (general appearance and character; agreement of adjectives)
- Numbers, Calendar and Time
- Personal Details (age, address, nationality)
- Food and Drink (basic vocabulary; placing an order)
- Likes and Dislikes/Hobbies
- Travel (modes of transportation; airport vocabulary)
- Accommodation (types; checking in to a hotel)
- Visiting a City (place names, directions)

Maria Woods is a French and Spanish speaker, translator and instructor. She also speaks Portuguese. Ms.Woods holds a Master of Arts Degree in Applied Foreign Languages, Spanish-English-French from Universite Paul Valery, Montpellier, France. She has worked for the French Embassy, the Alliance Francaise, the Association of Caribbean States, the Caribbean Interpreting and Translating Bureau of the University of the West Indies, and the Ministry of National Security.
