COVID-19 Guidance
Dear Students, Staff and Faculty,
The Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute has taken a number of measures in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in accordance with guidance from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. In our efforts to support the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, THTI has instituted online learning for all our theory courses and whenever Ministry of Health’s guidelines permit face-to-face classes we make appropriate special arrangements for practical classes to be conducted in line with prescribed Covid-19 protocols. All enrolled THTI students are continually updated regarding classes and campus openings/closures.
Teaching of theory classes continue online. Students must follow instructions provided for preparation for online learning and appropriate channels of communications. Details are provided by clicking on Student ResourcesÂ
Google Classroom will be used as the platform for teaching and learning. Students will be notified via email of the date and time established for the Orientation Session.
We continue to do everything we can to ensure that our students, staff and faculty are supported and continue to function as best as we can. We ask everyone to cooperate by reviewing and sharing the guidelines being provided to you.Â
Please keep abreast of all developments.
About Covid-19
The Ministry of Health continues to provide up-to-date information and guidelines for the country.
- What is COVID-19
COVID-19, previously called the Novel Coronavirus, is part of a family of viruses that includes the common cold, SARS and MERS.
- Symptoms of COVID-19
Similar to the common cold, COVID-19 is spread from person to person when an infected carrier coughs or sneezes. Symptoms of COVID-19 include: Fever, Coughing, Sore Throat, and in some cases Acute diarrhoea.
- Prevention
Prevention is the most important action you can take to protect yourself and your family from getting COVID-19. The Ministry of Health urges the population to:
Wash your hands with soap and water: Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if water and soap are not available.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of tissue immediately after using. Cough and sneeze into the crook of your elbow if you do not have a tissue.
Avoid touching your face.
Practice social distancing (e.g. no kissing, hugging, or hand-shaking, avoid mass gatherings).
Stay home if you are ill. Avoid close contact with people who have flu-like symptoms.
Sanitize hard surfaces (e.g. table tops, hand rails, door knobs and trolleys) as often as possible.
Sanitize hands frequently with alcohol based sanitizer.
