THTI Campus Closure Announcement
THTI Campus will be closed until April 20, 2020 in line with recent Covid-19 guidelines announced by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Full-time and part-time students in all academic programmes will continue to receive online teaching until the campus re-opens. All short courses, events and other activities scheduled have been postponed until further notice. Enrolled students will continue to receive communication and updates from relevant THTI staff. Additional information of interest to students, stakeholders and the general public will be shared on THTI social media sites, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Stay tuned for more updates.
THTI Chef & Lecturer Arthur Patrick spent 6 days during Carnival 2020 as personal chef to Christopher Bridges aka Ludacris preparing curated ketogenic dishes for his low carb high fat diet. Chef Arthur is also the architect of the exciting menu being developed for the upcoming THTI Taste of Tobago Culinary Experience on May 16, 2020. Event tickets go on sale in mid-March...stay tuned! The Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI) established an exchange agreement with the Hotel School Du Gosier in 2019 that included student and language exchanges and cultural experiences. To commence this agreement, THTI hosted a contingent of 21 Tourism students and two members of faculty from the Lycée des Métiers de l'Hôtellerie et du Tourisme Archipel Guadeloupe (College of Hospitality and Tourism Archipelago Guadeloupe) on Sunday 26th January 2020. The group visited Tobago via the Costa Magica cruise ship as part of their Caribbean tourism studies project. The group enjoyed an island tour while interacting with THTI staff and students for the day. The island tour began with a visit to the Botanical Gardens in Scarborough, Fort James Fort Granby, Speyside Lookout followed by a presentation by a member of the Environmental Research Institute in Charlotteville (ERIC) on sustainable tourism development in North East Tobago (www.eric-tt.org). The group drove along the scenic Northside road to Fort Cambleton, L’anse Fourmi, Bloody Bay and stopped in the village of Castara before heading back to the ship. Four Students accompanied by Tourism Lecturer, Ms Shinille Smith, attended the 4th Caribbean-International Tourism Conference. Theme: Navigating the Destination of the Future, on 12-13 December 2019. It provided students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in relevant discussion regarding tourism development in Small Island Developing States and to participate in discourse on sustainability in the tourism sector. Introducing the menu that will be offered by the Top O' the Mill Restaurant at the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute during the Tobago Restaurant Experience. The fine dining experience will be delivered by Culinary Arts and Food & Beverage Operations students, guided by the Institute's Lecturers and Master Chef's. The Tobago Restaurant Experience will take place from December 1 to 8, 2019 as part of the annual Tobago Day Celebrations. The concept was introduced by the Tobago House of Assembly in 2018. A Tobago Symposium
Tobago Literacy Support hosts symposium on the United Nation's proclamation of the International Decade for People of African Descent. The symposium will be moderated by Devonne Miggins and the panelists include Rawle Titus, Adeola James, John Arnold and Dr. Ryan Allard. The event will be held at the Scarborough Library on Tuesday 10th of December at 5 pm and will be open to the public.
Food and Beverage Skills Development Training
Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute in collobaration with the Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation presents Food and Beverage Skills Development Training. This training features: table setting, perfect grooming and quality service techniques and sequence.
International Decade for people of African Descent
THTI Programme launch took place on Saturday 23, November 2019. This launch signifies the start of a series of events to be hosted by the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute over the next six years as we formally recognize and promote the remaining years of the United Nations General Assembly proclamation of 2015-2024 as the International Decade of People of African Descent.
History was made for THTI this past June, with four of our students qualifying as finalists in the Caribbean Tourism Organization's (CTO) Student's Colloquium hosted in New York, USA. This event is part of the CTO's Caribbean Week Celebration and was held on June 3-7, 2019 at the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel.
